Dear Energy and Environmental Activists:
As you have heard, The American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACES) passed the House of Representatives on June 26th by a very narrow vote of 219-212.
The bill now goes to the Senate. Senate leaders have said that it will not be voted on until the fall because they want to tackle health insurance over the summer.
Hence, we have time to organize.
Right now, we're developing our strategy to address the Senate. We are encouraged that some members of Congress joined us in opposing this legislation because it simply is not strong enough, or in the words of one Congressman: "It is hard to imagine a bill more generous to the coal industry."
CLEAN will press on because the debate is not over and no law has been signed. This is the first battle in what will be a challenge for us. We are now assessing our options and designing a plan of action that will take full advantage of our greatest resource and that is your strength, determination and great organizing skills.
We will also be addressing our concerns to President Obama at the same time as we address the Senate.
Stay tuned for what we propose. Let us know your own thoughts and strategy suggestions.
Don't forget to express your views and post your organization's activities on our social web site - The CLEAN NING as well as find updated information at www.theclean.org .
Onward! Because we are the alternative!
Sincerely,
Pam Solo
